Am I A Feminist?
Recently, Emma Watson has been having some major buzz about her work as a feminist and UN Women’s Goodwill Ambassador. She caught my attention and is the woman that got me thinking about feminism. And I am not one for labels, at all. I usually cross in between different labels with everything. So, it’s strange to think about just straight up saying yes, I am a feminist. But, when you realize feminism isn't about any form of hatred, shaming, putting down, anger, or any other negative thing, it is pretty easy to get behind. As I am sure you know by now that I want every woman to love themselves as they are in this moment. And, that’s what feminism wants too.
Feminism is all about loving women and treating them like another human.
Not less than, nor more than. We decide what we do, when we do it, where we do it, how we do it, and who we do it with. This means, if you want to be a stay at home Mom, you feel empowered to do that. If you don’t want kids, you feel empowered to do that. If you want to wear no makeup or all the makeup, you do it! See, it isn't defined by what you look like or the type of career you have or hating one thing. It’s about loving one another and treating each other as humans! We are all humans meant to be treated with kindness and love! Simple as that. Love women because we are just as human as you and treat us as such! God created all humans equally.
So, I would say yes, I am a Feminist. And a humanist, and a malist or masculist (I made those words up, lol!). And Emma Watson is one of my inspirations because she is a truly classy woman and she is part of the reason I began to see the truth about feminism. She's just awesome!! But, feminism is not what defines me. What defines me is my love for Christ. That defines me more than any societal title. Christ is love and therefore I believe all people should be treated equal, because we are all humans and the whole earth should be treated with respect because it is God’s creation!!!
